Right now, customers applying for our third pillar (life insurance) products answer about 15 general and health-related questions. Based on their responses (mostly unstructured data), we assess the risk and decide whether and to what extent to insure them.

This underwriting process is carried out manually by employees – it’s time-consuming, inconsistent, and far from scalable. We believe it’s ripe for automation. And we know: If anyone can crack this challenge, it’s you!

• Understand customer input (even if it’s messy, incomplete or free-text)
• Apply business rules dynamically and make them editable by non-technical users
• Make clear, explainable, comprehensible und verifiable decisions (approve, approve with conditions, modify offer, reject, further clarifications needed)
• Learn and get better over time. Yes, we’re thinking ML, NLP, reinforcement learning…
