Pax Digital Advisor — AI that makes life insurance simple

Build an AI-powered self-service advisory prototype for Pax that puts the customer's entire life situation first — not the products. Capture needs, link the 1st/2nd/3rd pension pillars, simulate life scenarios (family, home, retirement), and only then recommend fitting Pax solutions and guide the user through the full end-to-end journey: advisory → recommendation → contract → policy in the customer portal.

Winner develops the PoC further with Pax's innovation team.

Problem Statement

Customers in Switzerland lack a digital, self-service advisory channel for life insurance. Pax — an established Swiss life insurer with a fast-growing product portfolio — offers advice exclusively through traditional human advisors. Insurance is complex, and customers often do not know which risks they should insure, how much they need to provide for, which products fit their situation, or what the difference between the various solutions is. At the same time, AI is changing how people search for information, make decisions, and interact with companies. Pax wants to know what the insurance advisor of the future can look like. The challenge is therefore: build the future of insurance advice. Develop a working prototype of an AI Insurance Advisor that guides a customer through their personal pension situation and derives comprehensible recommendations for suitable Pax products. We are not looking for an ordinary chatbot. We are looking for an idea that shows us what a digital pension advisor would look like if it were really good.

Context

A "digital advisor of the future" must put the customer's holistic life situation at the center, not the products:

  • Linking 1st, 2nd, and 3rd pension pillars (state/occupational/private)
  • Considering individual life goals (e.g., starting a family, home ownership, early retirement, child insurance)
  • Understanding the personal financial starting position
  • Products stay deliberately in the background and are only positioned secondarily as the fitting solution within the overall picture

Target Audience

Private customers of Pax in Switzerland — individuals (or couples/families) with a personal financial situation and life goals who want self-service advisory on life insurance / pension provision across all three pillars.

Must-haves

  • Capture needs, understand life situations (incl. financial situation), and derive development goals
  • Model a holistic pension logic across all three pillars
  • Enable individual life simulations (scenarios: family, home ownership, retirement)
  • Recommend situationally fitting Pax solutions (as a secondary step)
  • Cover the complete end-to-end flow: Advisory → Recommendation → Conclusion/Contract → Policy in the customer portal
  • The advisor understands the situation, asks intelligent follow-up questions, identifies relevant risks, structures the pension need, proposes suitable solutions, explains its recommendations, and shows possible next steps. It also recognizes when a human advisor is necessary.
